CarChip Monitoring Products
Award-winning CarChip—finalist in TechTV’s 2003 Best of CES awards and winner of SEMA 2003 Best Engineered New Product—consists of a tiny “black box” data logger, a CD with software for analyzing the data, and a cable and power adapter for downloading. The data logger plugs into the OBDII connector in your car, where it continuously collects and stores data from the car’s computer control systems.
Vehicle On-board diagnostics (OBD) data was usually available only to professional mechanics. With CarChip, this data can now be in your hands. CarChip can be easily plugged into the OBDII connector in your car. It then continuously retrieves and records data from the car's computer system.

Fast and Easy Plug-and-Go Installation.
- Locate your car’s OBDII connector. It’s found in the passenger compartment of all cars sold today, model-year 1996 or later, no more than three feet from the driver’s seat.
- Plug the data logger in. A gentle push is all it takes.
- Start driving. That’s all there is to it! The data logger will start collecting data as soon as you start driving.
Available in Various Model
- Consumer Versions of CarChip include the CarChip data logger, a CD with software for analyzing the data, and a USB cable for downloading the data. Available in three models:
- CarChip ™ with 75 hours of trip details, including time and date, distance, speed, idle time, hard accelerations and decelerations, and engine diagnostic trouble codes.
- CarChip E/X™ with 300 hours of trip details. All the details of standard CarChip, plus an accident log and the ability to monitor any 4 out of 23 user-selectable engine parameters.
- CarChip E/X™ with Alarm has all the features of CarChipE/X plus an audible alarm to warn driver when user set speed, acceleration and braking limits are exceeded.
- Fleet Versions of CarChip are designed to be used with our Fleet Management Software. The data logger and software are sold separately. Available in two models:

Exclusions
A few 2003 and 2004 model-year vehicles use the CAN protocol, which will be supported in early 2004. See the list of exclusions on our CarChip compatibility chart.
Important Safety Notice
CarChip has been carefully designed and tested to comply with the OBDII protocols used on most cars and light trucks sold in the USA, model-year 1996 or later. However, some vehicle models are not in full compliance with these protocols. In addition, the computer control systems on any given vehicle may be malfunctioning or out of spec, as may be the sensors used by these systems.
Before installing CarChip, be sure to review the list of known vehicle exclusions and anomalies (see the link above). For more information on OBDII issues and anomalies in general, we recommend The Equipment and Tool Institute's website at http://www.etools.org/.
While our testing and the experience of thousands of CarChip users have shown the unit to be safe and reliable, there is an inherent risk in adding any aftermarket product that may potentially affect the operation or drivability of your vehicle. Should you be concerned about the operation of your vehicle at any time while using CarChip, you should pull over, off the roadway, immediately or as soon as it is safe to do so. Remove CarChip from the OBDII port and consult a licensed mechanic or automobile service center.
